Thanks to Neill Cooper, junior organiser for the Southern Counties Chess Union, for organising this event, a 2-round longplay jamboree with 3 sections: an 8-board U18 Open, a 6-board U18 Minor, and (new this year), an 8-board U14 Open. In the Minor, players must be under 140 grade with the average grade of the team under 110.

Firstly big thanks for everybody turning up on time - even our Chairman made it to the start despite having an overheated car. The event was delayed for 30 minutes due to very bad traffic, “Mothers Day”, and one of the organisers having the remaining Chess Sets & Boards with him.
In the U14’s Open it was clear the other Counties had much stronger graded players on paper so any results we managed to achieve would be a good result; so well done to Cosima Keen & Jonathan Finn.
The Under 18’s Open was a very close affair between Kent, Surrey and ourselves - both rounds we scored 5 pts out of a possible 8pts.
Well done to the following players who won both games on the day:
U18 Open - Chris Yates
U18 Minor - Sean Linott-White and Cassie Graham
Also to the players who were unbeaten on the day - George Salimbeni, David Grant, Matthew Payne, Morgan Blake, Jonathan Finn.
Thanks to Dave Graham for his analysis of games on the day.
Also thanks go to Neil Cooper, Sue Maguire and team for refreshments, Laurence Jones, and ECF Arbiter Chris Howell for running a well organised event, and our players and parents.
Andy Payne
