SJC Inter-Schools Cup Competitions - Primary Cup (U11), Butler Cup (U14), Sadd Cup (U16), Wilson Cup (U18)

Each year Sussex Junior Chess organise an inter-school chess tournament for 4 age groups. Progress and results for the Primary Cup are below.

U11 Inter-Schools Competitions - Primary Cup

The largest entry involves students under the age of 11 (Year 6 and below) who compete in teams of 4 players for the Primary Cup. This tournament has always proved very successful and this year is no exception with 46 teams from 32 schools entering the event.

Finals Day - 15th June 2010

The final of the 2009-2010 U11 Inter-schools Tournament was held at St. Lawrence School in Hurstpierpoint. 

In September over 40 schools entered  from across East and West Sussex. To reach the final, teams had to play in an initial round against local schools in the Autumn term, followed by a divisional round in the Spring term.

So congratulations to the final twelve teams who met to play two further games to confirm the final placings of this year’s tournament.   Within the final 12 teams were 4 teams who had not previously or in recent years competed in the tournament. 

Close games were played in all Divisions, including the last game to finish on Board 1 Division 1, on which the final result depended.  Of the 12 matches played in total; 7 of them were 2-2 draws where the winning team had to be decided on board count.

Last but not least, we thank Paula Payne for all her hard work co-ordinating the Schools Cups for the last 3 years. Paula is handing over to Lesley Simpson next season, but you will still come across her as she has nobly agreed to become our event entries manager instead!
