U13 & U18 ECF County Championships: 10th May 2008, Heanor, Derbyshire

Our U13's put in a very creditable Team performance against 8 other Counties from across the UK in the U13 ECF Championship. After Round 1 we were in 2nd Place a point behind Yorkshire. The first three placings 1st:Yorkshire 5.5pts/6, 2nd: Sussex 4.5pts/6 & 3rd: Nottinghamshire A 4pts/6.

All to play for in the Round 2, in which we needed Yorkshire to lose. It was out of our hands as no one from Sussex was playing them, with wins on all 6 Boards, Sussex succeeded in becoming U13 Champions.

Final Positions: 1st: Sussex 10.5pts/12, 2nd: Yorkshire 9.5pts/12, 3rd: Nottinghamshire A 9pts/12, 4th: Cheshire & North 6.5pts/12, 5th: Nottinghamshire B 4.5pts/12, 6th: Norfolk 4pts/12, 7th: Northants 2.5pts/12 & 8th: Derbyshire 1.5pts/12

Well done to Jude Lenier, Chris Yates, Ramsay Pyper & Sean Lintott-White who all achieved 2 wins out of 2.

In the U18s, Sussex finished 3rd.

With a whole range of our strongest U18's unavailable, the team were up against it seeing the strength of the Kent & Yorkshire Teams, who managed to get all their strongest players to play. Many of our older experienced players were missing due to exams etc.

Five counties took part, and after Round 1 our Top 3 Boards had all won and we were in 3rd place. In Round 2 Kent & Yorkshire maintained their dominance on the tournament, and by the end we were still in 3rd Place. Final Positions: 1st: Kent 19pts/24, 2nd: Yorkshire 17pts/24, 3rd: Sussex 12.5/24, 4th: Northants 6pts/24, 5th: Lincolnshire 5.5pts/24

Well done to George Salimbeni with 2 wins out of 2, and also to Andrea Chlebikova in her first County Tournament with 1.5 pts.
