Championships:
24th - 25th February 2007, Swindon
Two full days were spent in Swindon on 24th and 25th February by many
SJC players at the 21st Wiltshire Open Chess Championships.
Results were as follows:
U18 Major: Alex Galliano who won the Arbiter's Prize on 3/5. Ben Silverstein
took 1.5/5. This was a very tough competition with the top player
ranked 197.
Under 110 Minor: Thomas Fitzgerald 4/6 and Matthew Payne 3/6.
U12 Championship, this being an England qualifying event.
Congratulations to Zi -Yuan Qu who took joint first on 5.5/6, also
gaining entry to the England Junior Squad. He narrowly beat Ram Mohan
in the
final round. Other scores were Ram and Shyam Mohan 4.5, Barnaby Paul
and Robert Fitzgerald 4, George Galliano and Ramsey Pyper 3, Freddie
Keen and Jonathan Burch 2 and Sean Lintott White 1.5.
U10 Daniel Sutton came joint 3rd on 5/7
U9 Charlie Keen took joint first place on 5.5/7 and Otto Pyper came
3rd on 5/7.
U8s Cosima Keen not only took 2nd place in the U8s, but who also
won and took the 'best girl' trophy in the U50s intermediate event
which
took place on the Saturday. ( A larger space for trophies needed
in the Keen household soon!)
Well done to everyone who took part as the standard of the competition
was extremely high.
