SCCU U14/U90: Early Rounds

3 March 2007 v. Hertfordshire

14 Jan 2007 v. CCF East

17 Dec 2006 v. Kent

3 March 2007

Sussex met Hertfordshire in our third match of this stage of the tournament.

This was Hertfordshire’s final match in this stage and they came to it unbeaten as were we. We needed to win this match to win this stage and our place in the final, a loss would have put Hertfordshire into the final but our team again put in a very strong performance, securing a convincing victory.

Our team played very consistently, scoring ten points in each of the two rounds, giving a final score of 20-4. Once again, it is very difficult to single out any particular player for praise because all performed very well.

We will be meeting Essex on 11th March in the final match of this stage, when undoubtedly, our team will produce excellent results. The final, which will be against Surrey , will probably take place in late April or mid-May.

14 January 2007

Sussex played CCF East in the second match of this tournament. We were hoping for a great result when we fielded an unchanged team from the Kent match. and won the match by 23 points to 1.

With so many excellent performances, it is difficult to single out individuals who performed well, as everyone put in real effort to secure a magnificent victory. However, both our top boards beat CCF’s top player who was able to score 1½ out of their 5 points against Kent . Mention should also go to Matthew Payne who insisted on playing in the second round of the match despite sustaining a football injury after the first round!

We have yet to meet Hertfordshire and Essex in the first stage of the tournament but only Sussex and Hertfordshire are unbeaten so far in our half of the draw.

17 December 2006

Sussex played Kent in the first match of this tournament and won by 13 points to 11.

In a tight match we were trailing 5½ to 6½ after the first of the two rounds but rallied well in the second round when we achieved 7½. The team were Matthew Payne, Ben Silverstein, Polly Lambert, Thomas Fitzgerald, Sean Lintott-White, Sam Amis, Tyler North, Marcus Campopiano, Alistair Jones, Matthew Burch, Andrew Squibbs and Charles Board.

Sam Amis and Marcus Campopiano deserve special mention for winning both their games and Alistair Jones for winning his first game and drawing his second one.

Our next game will be on January 14th when we meet CCF East and we will be fielding the same team.
