England Squad Trials: 28th - 29th April 2007, Liverpool

For yet another year, Sussex had a strong contingent of players who qualified for the England U11 Trials in Liverpool. The tournament is always stressful for players and parents alike. This year, seven players took the trek North.

Shyam Mohan was overall winner of the trials with a stunning 5.5 out of 6 points. Brother Ramm and Ramsay Piper also made the magic 4 points which effectively guarantee selection for the squad.

On 3.5 points, Barnaby Paul and Chris Yates were forced to wait for the decision of the selectors before knowing whether they have made the squad, but have now also been confirmed as having qualified. Congratulations to all 5 boys.

Freddie Keen was unfortunate enough to suffer a freak accident in round 2 that upset his tournament. He was winning this game but had to accept a draw. He will hopefully be able to qualify for the squad in the forthcoming tournaments.

Felix Haxby scored a creditable 2.5 points as a 9 year old and will be hoping to make the squad at next year’s trial
