La Cappelle International: 18th - 25th February 2006, La Cappelle

Two Sussex players, Grant Bucher and Rhys Cumming were selected to join an England party travelling to La Cappelle to take part in a tournament involving over 100 Grand Masters. Lyall Bayliss from Kent also attended.

After 9 rounds, some lasting over 5 hours, both Grant and Rhys were successful in gaining prizes. Grant came 2nd place in his age group, finishing on 4.5 in 350th place. Rhys won the U1400 Grading prize, and was also the top graded U1500 player in the tournament, finishing in 452nd place (but significantly above his initial ranking of 601!). Lyall finished in 421st place.
