Horsham Grand Prix: 28th January 2006

The Horsham Grand Prix saw a strong turnout, with players joining the U18 major section from Surrey, Kent and Wiltshire. The tournament also saw the strongest turnout of girl players seen to date, with the U11 Minor being fairly evenly split between girls and boys, and girls taking 2 of the 4 titles.
The U18 Major competition was very tightly contested, with no player managing to achieve more than 4 points! Eventually, there was a tie for 1st place between 3 players. Elliot Auckland, however, took the title on progressives from Robbie Coats and Shiela Dines. A large number of the chasing field finished just half a point behind.

In the U18 Minor, Ben Silverstein took the title on 6 points, securing his place in the Majors for the next tournament. James Draper took second and Sam Amis took third on 5 points and 4 points respectively.

In the U11 Major, Polly took the title, winning all but her last game which she drew. 2nd and 3rd places were taken by Ram and Shyam Mohan, who scored the same points but were split only on progressives.

The U11 Minor was won by Amy Hoare on 5 points. Also on 5 points, but being edged out on progressives was 6 year old Otto Pyper, who was initially entered for the Major tournament, so only played 5 games in the minors. Third place was taken by Eliza McHugh. The age group titles wer taken as follows:

U10 Charlie Mills 4

U9 George Bacon 3

U8 Robert Fitzgerald 3.5 (Major)

U7 Cosima Keen 4
