Hastings Congress: January 2006

A number of Sussex Juniors took part in the Adult Hastings Congress which ran from Boxing day through to January 8th. Many took part expecting to gain some experience but few points. However, there were a number of successes.

In the Christmas Week tournaments, Grant Bucher took equal 4th in the afternoon 'A' group. At the weekend congress, a large number of juniors took part in the various grading groups. 3 of our U13s juniors took part in the U160 category, and Alex Galliano and David Grant both finished on 3 points from 5 to share the U145 grading prize.

Hastings Junior Congress

Bad weather and the Adult Congress conspired to limit the total attendance to 26 children, which meant that we ran 2 sections, an Under 18 and an Under 11 but with additional Minor prizes.

In the Under 11, Robert White of Woking won the section impressively with 6 out of 6, 2 points clear of 5 Sussex players on 4 points. Christopher Yates and Robert Fitzgerald finished equal 2nd with Robert also winning the Under 9 trophy. Polly Lambert and Marcus Campopiano were just pipped on progressives. George Galliano won the Under 10 trophy, George Bacon won the under 9 trophy with 3.5 points, Toby Harris and Rory Fraser shared the under 8 trophy with 2.5 points.

Sean Lintott-White won the Under 11 Minor, with Amy Hoare in 2nd place and Iona Rose in 3rd.

In the Under 18, Thomas Fitzgerald pipped Adam Squibbs to the trophy on progressives. Nick Fraser finished half a point back with 4.5, and Ben Silverstein did very well in his first Major with 3.5 points and received a medal.

A big thanks to Sue and John Lenier for all their hard work in organising the tournament.
