Hastings Junior Congress: 8th January 2005

Just short of 60 players attended the Hastings Grand Prix. The turnout in the U18s was a little lower than usual, with key players being absent due to the Hastings Congress across the road or an England team training event, so the competition for the U18 Majors and Minors were combined.

In the U11 Minor competition, we welcomed a lot of new players to SJC tournaments, and enjoyed a strong competition. The winner was Robert White on 5.5 from 6, with 2nd place going to Shyan Mohan, and 3rd to Benji Pearson. In the U11 Major, Jude Lenier took the title with a clear 6 points ahead of Matthew Payne (5) and Paddy Reeves-Dienes (4.5). In the U18 Minor competition, Nick Mansfield took the title ahead of Charles Board and Trevelyan Harper.

In the U18 Major, cash prizes are now awarded instead of trophies, so progressives are not used. Rather the cash prize is split between players on equal points. Robert Lydiard took the the title on 5 points. 2nd place was shared between 5 players, namely: George Perez Trunin, Elliott Auckland, Roshal Patel, Katherine Rattle and Nick Fraser.

Age group prizes were also awarded as follows:

U10 Ben Rudling 4 points U11 Major

runner up Sam Amis

U9 Steven Jackson 4 points U11 Minor

runner up George Galliano

U8 Ramm Mohan 4 points U11 Minor

U7 Charlie Keen

with a special mention for Cosima Keen as the only U6.
