Hastings Junior Chess Congress (3 Jan 2004)

The first Grand Prix of 2004 saw some exceptionally strong competition in each of the four categories, despite some regular players opting to play on the main Hastings Congress.

In the U18 Major, Elliot Callow took the title scoring 5 our of 6.  Jonathan Paley and Joe Richardson both scored 4.5, with Jonathan taking 2nd place on progressives.

In the U18 Minor, Charles Davies beat Robert Stabler to 1st place on progressives, both players scoring 5 out of 6.  Four players scored 4 points, but James Arnold took third place on progressives, edging out Kieran Fryer, Alexander Gordon-Brown and Mark Carter.

The U11 Major contest was won by Rhys Cumming, again on 5 points.  Shiela Dines came 2nd, beating George Salimbeni (3rd) on progressives.

In the U11 Minor Joe Quinn took the title with 5 points.  Again, the two runners up were on 4.5 points, with Alistair Jones taking 2nd place and Ben Rudling 3rd on progressives.  The Top U8 player was Christopher Yates.  U9 went to Kipp Macadam Freud and U10 to Alex Yeomans.
