SCCU U18 Jamboree: 9th Feb 2003

After coming third in this event last year, hopes were high especially as the team remained much the same with the added bonus of Thomas Rendle on board 1 and Nimai McCarthy on board 3. However, the other teams were also similarly stengthened, so third place again was another good result.

Charlie Linford lead from the front again with an excellent 2 out of 2, and Thomas only dropped half a point to Richmond's young star Muragan Thiruchelvam.

In a draw that could best be described as 'interesting', the Sussex board six Joe Fraser, not only played the same county (Essex) twice, but also had the same colour (black) for both rounds, and coincidentaly the same family in the Jellett twins. He did at least manage to get a point from one of them ! The draw also contained another anomaly with board five, Adam Prescott also playing Essex twice, and with the same colour (white).

All in all, a good performance all round, and with only one player moving out of the age group next year,  greater rewards for all the effort put in by the team must come sooner rather than later.
