Hastings Grand Prix: 4th January 2003

Many thanks to Scott Fraser for this report.

Under-18 Major
Adam Prescott and Joe Fraser renewed their rivalry at Hastings. They both reached 4.5 out of 5 only dropping half a point to each other. Adam won his final game whilst Joe was held to a draw by Ellie Hayden. Ellie won the Under 16 cup, losing out to Abi Fryer on progressives.

Under-18 Minor
In a very competitive minor section, Michael Pearce and Isaac Knight could only be separated by progressive scores on 4.5 points, with Michael taking the honours. Mark Willshire won 3rd place with 3.5 points.

Under 11 Major
In a very strong Major section, Christopher Linnett won with 5 points, although he can count himself very fortunate to beat 2nd placed Andrew Winchcombe on time when he was a Queen down. David Grant recovered from a shock first round defeat to Oskar Schorz to take 3rd place with 4.5. Farris Ziyada, Shelia Dines, Nick Fraser and Seb Stracey all performed very well to finish just outside the prizes on 4 points. Also on 4 was Rhys Cumming, who won the best under-9 trophy.

Under 11 Minor
The first four in the Minor could only be separated by Progressive scores on 5 points with first prize being awarded to Andrew Turner. Patrick Reeves-Dienes and James Draper were 2nd and 3rd respectively. The unlucky player to get a medal was Alex Case. Charles Board won best under-10 with 4.5 points, Kipp MacAdam-Freud was  best under-8 with 4. Edward Reeves-Dienes was best under-7 with 4.

A special training prize was awarded to Lucy Sutton.
