Sussex U11 Championships (1 Dec 2001)

U11 Champs 2001Girls still rule in Sussex after Abi Fryer was the unexpected but worthy winner of the Under 11 championships. Following in the footsteps of last year's Sussex star, Stephanie Barraclough, Abi swept all before her (well almost) including the pre-tournament favourite Andrew Tucker to take the title by half a point.

Hellingly were the schools champions, with Dorset House second and St. Lawrence, Hurstpierpoint third.

Seven girls took on the best 50 boys in Sussex on the 1st December 2001 at Burgess Hill and came away with the silverware. Abi Fryer won with 5½/6 followed by Jessica Wood and Sarah Linnett equal seventh on 4/6. Elizabeth Tehrani, Helen Wrathall, Rebecca Grant and Rachael Gardner all played well and with plenty of smiles. Sarah Linnett also led her school to the team trophy.

Well done to Abi for retaining the trophy in Sussex girls hands as Stephanie Barraclough won it last year. Will it be Jessica's turn in 2002?
