Southwater Open - 16 Oct 1999U18:Sussex Young master Charlie Linford won the under 18 section of the Southwater tournament today. Despite slipping up against James Purcell in round 5, Charlie managed to hold off the younger Sussex pretenders and won with 5 out of 6. In a hotly contested section, second to fourth place was taken by Sussex under 9 Sebastian Pozzo, James Purcell and Michael Hamilton, each with 4½ out of 6. The most notable performance however was from Katherine Rattle with 4½ out of 6 coming third, and managing to take a point off Eugene. With Hannah Adam fourth on 4, the two Sussex girls outshone some of the more experienced boys.
