Daniel Gooda vs Jamie Ward
Another interesting position from the Under 11 Minor. Although material is equal, Jamie has an advantage - his rook and knight are well placed and he has 3 ways to win a pawn:
Nb4 x a2,
Nb4 x c2, or
Rf2 x c2
One of these is good, 2 are bad. Can you work out why?
1...Nxa2
This is correct, safely winning a pawn
[1...Nxc2
This is a bad move - the knight is safe from the king because of the Rf2 but ... 2.Ng4
White attacks the rook and Black must give up the knight to save it; 1...Rxc2
This is bad too. This time the rook is defended by the knight but White can play ... 2.a3
and once again Black must lose the rook or the knight.]
